Stock Visibility Solution

Supply chain management in the public sector often relies on medicine being procured centrally and distributed through several steps to the dispensing facilities. Due to predominantly paper based processes and underinvestment in information and communication technologies, problems with the availability of medicine persists.

The Stock Visibility Solution (SVS) makes a smartphone and application bundle available to dispensing facilities to capture pharmacy stock levels daily. The information synchronises in real time to a cloud-hosted server that automates alerts and reports for the benefit of various levels of supply chain management.

Real time access to stock level information from medicine dispensaries mean low-stock levels can be proactively replenished, and out-of-stock facilities can receive priority attention. The National Department of Health can monitor critical supply chains and compare centrally purchased volumes with medicine actually available on the shelves of dispensaries. SVS enables government to migrate from a pull model to an informed push model.

SVS is currently active in 3300 clinics across 8 South African Provinces (Limpopo, KwaZulu, Gauteng, North West, Northern Cape, Free State, Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga). It is also used in Zambia.
